I'm writing this testimonial for Kirk because I truly believe if you have received superior service and fair pricing that one should shout it from the tree-tops. Consider this testimonial of me shouting for Kirk. I recently was upgrading my home theatre/audio system with a new receiver, master programmable remote and AppleTV. The remote I purchased from Tweeter and requires professional programming. Then Tweeter went bankrupt before I got to install the components. I tried the install myself, and at the risk of divorce, bodily injury and ridicule from teenagers, I relented and actually posted on craigslist for a home theater installer. In my Ad I mentioned a former Tweeter employee might be of interest because I knew their people had the training and experience.
Kirk was one of maybe a dozen people who responded and one of only a couple who said "no problem" programming the remote. I was surely not looking for the people who said, "I've set up my friends stereo".....heck, I've done that !! This needed a PRO !!!
I sent back an email to Kirk, suggesting he contact me by phone or email that I was interested in speaking to him. I got a phone call in less than an hour. I explained my situation, type of equipment and what I needed. He said he'd come to my house, inspect the equipment etc and give me a quote. He came out on time on the next day I had available. He noted that he owned the same receiver I had bought at Tweeter, that made me feel good about my choice. He told me directly that the best way to assure that the hook-ups were correct was to take everything out of the built-in wall unit and for him to start from scratch. I hesitated thinking this was the 'make-work' ploy, but I made an intuitive decision, I trusted he was correct...and he would guarantee the whole install and hook-up. I could tell he had experience and confidence just in the way he took the system apart. He also checked out each piece of equipment.
When he came to my DVD player he checked it out and suggested I consider replacing it. It was an older unit. He also suggested we upgrade our Cable Box. So, Kirk and I hopped in my car and headed to Circuit City in hopes of snagging a Blue-Ray DVD player as they were going out of business. No luck, but then Kirk started calling his distributors, on the third call he found a unit he would recommend in stock and he asked them how much then quoted me a price. I usually do extensive online evaluation but at this point I just wanted the new DVD player. I went with his recommendation and we picked up the unit. Then headed to the Cable company for the new HD box and then back to my house.
He stayed late that night...it wasn't an easy install and we had two extra zone speakers to deal with. He was back the next morning, once again precisely on time and finished the install and programming. He was fussier than me on the 'tuning' of the equipment. The AppleTV was a challenge for him since it connects through Wi-Fi to the home network to access my 5000 songs on our iTunes. He even figured out changes needed to my home computer network to get the Apple TV to connect.
The bottomline is he went beyond my expectations. He knew he was beyond the original estimate and I knew it too...as he was writing up the invoice for the parts, DVD player etc he stopped and asked about the labor cost and proposed a number asking "would this be fair". It certainly was...and the install, training and functionality is great. Today I was curious and searched the web to learn about the Blue-Ray DVD player. It turns out to be one of the highest rated Denon units and the price he quoted me was very fair...in fact a bargain when you figure in shipping from an online supplier!
I am now in AV heaven I've got ONE remote that does everything...I can watch one thing in the family room and listen to iTunes in the other room. He balanced and tuned my existing speakers and the sound has never been better.
If you ever wish to define a good service business...Kirk Hobbs and South Shore Audio Video Installation would be the best example !
